Who we are?

Welcome to asylumseekersunited.org, a project started by a group of Black LGBTQ+ and gender non-conforming asylum seekers in the United States. We started this website to share the knowledge and resources we have gained through our own experiences seeking asylum, and to help others going through the same process.

As a marginalized community, we understand the unique challenges faced by Black LGBTQ+ and gender non-conforming individuals seeking asylum in the United States. Our website is a platform for us to share information on legal aid, housing assistance, and government aid available to Black people who identify as LGBTQ+ or gender non-conforming, and to provide guidance on navigating the asylum process.

Our goal is to create a safe and inclusive space where Black LGBTQ+ and gender non-conforming asylum seekers can access resources and connect with each other for support. We believe in the power of community and are committed to working together to support and uplift one another.

As a community-led project, we welcome feedback and contributions from our users. Thank you for visiting our website and for your interest in our project. Together, we can build a brighter future for all Black LGBTQ+ and gender non-conforming asylum seekers in the United States.

What we do?

At Asylum Seeker’s United, we strive to create a space for Black LGBTQ+ and gender non-conforming asylum seekers to access information and resources, and to connect with others going through similar experiences. Some of the things we do include:

  • Sharing information: We gather information about legal assistance , housing assistance, and financial aid available to Black people who identify as LGBTQ+ or gender non-conforming seeking asylum in the United States. We then share this information on our website and social media channels to help others navigate the asylum process.
  • Providing a space for others to share information: We believe in the power of community and the importance of sharing knowledge and resources. We provide a space on our website where users can share their own experiences and insights, to be posted on the website.
  • Hosting “Voices of Asylum Seekers” podcast: We host a podcast called “Voices of Asylum Seekers,” where we invite organizations and asylum seekers to come and speak about their experience and share information they have learned along the process. This podcast provides a platform for marginalized voices to be heard and helps to create a more informed and supportive community.
  • Building community: We are committed to building a safe and inclusive community for Black LGBTQ+ and gender non-conforming asylum seekers. We encourage users to connect with each other, share their stories, and support one another through the challenges of seeking asylum in the United States.

We believe that by working together and sharing our knowledge and resources, we can create a brighter future for all Black LGBTQ+ and gender non-conforming asylum seekers in the United States.
